It’s hard to ignore how much artificial intelligence is changing our world. From answering simple questions to helping with schoolwork, AI is everywhere – though this response isn’t one of them! Most people agree that AI has a strong hold on us. Recently, a concerning trend has emerged: AI is being used to create videos featuring deceased celebrities, and many, like Zelda Williams, are understandably upset about it.
Robin Williams’ daughter, Zelda Williams, has expressed her strong disapproval of people using AI to create videos of her late father. She called the practice “disgusting” and publicly shared her distress on social media.
Her Statement is as Follows:
Zelda publicly asked people to stop sending her AI-generated videos of her father. In an Instagram Story, she explained she doesn’t want to see them and doesn’t appreciate the effort. She said even if it’s meant as a joke, she’s seen worse and will simply block those who send them. More importantly, she pleaded with people to respect her father’s memory and stop creating these videos, emphasizing it’s pointless, a waste of time, and not what he would have wanted.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen fake celebrity videos created using AI on social media. Artists like Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, 2Pac, and Kobe Bryant have all been digitally recreated using this technology.
Zelda expressed her frustration with the way people’s lives and artistic legacies are being reduced to superficial imitations online. She felt that creating quick, low-effort content using someone’s likeness wasn’t art at all, but rather a disrespectful and exploitative practice – like turning a person’s life and creative work into something cheap and unappetizing just for likes and views. She found the whole process deeply offensive.
As a movie buff, I’m honestly blown away by what AI can do now! I recently saw something where they digitally brought Tupac back to ‘hang out’ with Kobe Bryant, Michael Jackson, Biggie Smalls, Bruce Lee, Elvis, and even Fidel Castro. It was wild – seeing these legends together in one scene! It really makes you think about the possibilities – and maybe a little bit about where things are headed.

Has AI Gone Too Far?
It’s a little unsettling, honestly. AI offers amazing advantages – especially in areas like research, data analysis, and healthcare. But creating random, pointless images and videos? Or digitally recreating deceased celebrities without their families’ approval? People have very different feelings about that.
It’s easy to see playful interactions with ChatGPT as harmless fun, and often they are. I enjoy experimenting with it too! However, as Williams points out, we need to consider where to set boundaries. Ultimately, that’s a matter of personal opinion.
