Yo Gotti’s brother Big Jook accused of putting a hit on Young Dolph

As a gamer who’s spent countless hours immersed in online crime dramas and rap battle simulations, I can’t help but feel a mix of emotions hearing about this trial. On one hand, it’s a tragic reminder of the real-life consequences that often follow such conflicts as the one between Young Dolph and Yo Gotti. On the other, it feels like a script straight out of a game where I’ve had to navigate similar turf wars.

In November, it will have been three years since the tragic shooting of rapper Young Dolph in his hometown Memphis. The first suspect, Justin Johnson, began his trial on September 23rd. The other two suspects, Hernandez Govan and Cornelius Smith, who are allegedly planning to testify against Johnson, will face trial at a later date, as reported by ABC 24.

In the case, it is Hernandez who is being accused of authorizing the attack on Dolph, but Paul Hagerman, an assistant district attorney in Shelby County, stated that it was actually Yo Gotti’s brother Big Jook who issued the order instead. The conflict between Dolph and Gotti had been a prolonged feud that gained attention years ago. Additionally, Big Jook was fatally shot in Memphis at the beginning of 2024.

“[Big Jook] put out a hit,” said Hagerman in court, per AllHipHop. “A hit [[for] $100,000 to whoever kills Dolph. He has met with Justin. He has met with Cornelius [Smith], and they think they’re ready to do it. They’re definitely willing to do it. For Cornelius, it would be $50,000, I guess, that he could waste away on Percocet and ecstasy. For Justin, it’s $50,000 but also a chance to make it big with CMG. To become the next famous Memphis rapper.”

He went on, speaking about Justin and Cornelius, “They’re not assassins by trade, more like ordinary folks,” he said. “For them, this was purely business. Earning money for Cornelius, and for Justin Johnson, it was about making money and building a rap career. They did their best in the circumstances, honestly speaking, they used a car that couldn’t be traced back to them. It’s safer that way… They wore gloves. Later, the guns disappeared. The car was abandoned in a neighborhood, cleaned, and moved. Their intention was to part ways and blend into Memphis anonymously. They did everything they could under the circumstances.

Last year, Justin’s sibling, Jeremarcus Johnson, who was also suspected in the same case, admitted guilt for three charges of aiding a criminal post-factum. Meanwhile, both Justin and Cornelius, along with Hernandez, are currently accused of first-degree murder.
