I was really surprised and excited to hear Ryan Coogler is working on a new take on The X-Files, but I just learned what motivated him to take on the project, and it’s incredibly touching. He recently told Variety that his mother is the whole reason he wanted to reimagine the series. It makes the reboot feel even more special knowing it’s a personal project for him.
Ryan Coogler explained that The X-Files holds a special place in his relationship with his mother, much like Rocky did with his father. Speaking at a screening, he shared how much his mother—who was in attendance—means to him, and how important it is to him to both honor her and satisfy fans with his work.
Coogler also noted that his mother has even read some of the scripts he’s written for the project.
“She’s fired up,” he added.

Casting Rumors: Danielle Deadwyler, Gillian Anderson, David Duchovny?
When questioned about whether Danielle Deadwyler, known for her roles in Till and The Harder They Fall, might star in the new version, Coogler jokingly responded that he couldn’t say one way or the other.
He described her as amazing and expressed hope for good things to come. He also teased upcoming episodes as being intensely frightening, designed to please existing fans while also attracting new viewers.
