‘Wuthering Heights’ Rotten Tomatoes Score Drops, Dividing Critics

Emerald Fennell’s new take on “Wuthering Heights” is receiving a somewhat mixed response from critics. Currently, the film holds a 71% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, up from an initial 66%. While the reaction seems to be improving, opinions are still fairly split.

Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi lead the cast of this romantic drama, playing Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff, respectively. Hong Chau, Shazad Latif, Alison Oliver, Martin Clunes, and Ewan Mitchell also star in supporting roles.

Emerald Fennell wrote and directed the film, which is inspired by Emily Brontë’s classic novel. It first premiered in Los Angeles on January 28th and will be in theaters nationwide on February 13th, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.

Many critics complimented the film’s visuals, music, and acting. Avi Offer of NYC Movie Guru described it as “a raw, exciting, and beautiful adaptation of Emily Brontë’s novel” and predicted it might receive award nominations. Tyler Taing of Discussing Film also praised the film’s beautiful imagery and the dreamy original score by Charli xcx, but cautioned that the director’s interpretation of the story could be controversial.

Nadine Whitney of The Curb was highly impressed, calling the movie intensely passionate, raw, rebellious, lavish, and wild – a film filled with powerful desire and obsession. Rodrigo Perez of The Playlist described it as a large-scale, dreamlike experience of pain and cruelty.

Critics had mixed reactions to the movie. While some enjoyed certain aspects, many had reservations. Carla Hay of Culture Mix described it as visually and aurally impressive with strong acting, but lacking in depth. Anthony Morris from It’s Better in the Dark felt the film had positive moments, but they weren’t consistently strong. Wenlei Ma of The Nightly rated it 3 out of 5 stars, calling it a confusing and disorganized experience.

However, many other reviewers were critical. Kristy Puchko of Mashable described the film as a passionate but disorganized mix of teenage desire and defiance. Siddhant Adlakha from JoySauce.com found it narratively disjointed and tonally inconsistent. Brandon Lewis of Geek Vibes Nation felt it devolved into an overly dramatic and often either shocking or boring spectacle. Hanna Flint of IGN Movies thought it felt artificial and like a cheap, sensational romance novel. Robert Kojder from Flickering Myth acknowledged the strong visuals but found the story emotionally unengaging.

Early reviews of the movie are mixed. While most critics praise its stunning visuals and ambitious approach, they’re split on whether the storyline is successful.
