Wukong sequel, Black Myth: Zhong Kui, now in development

The follow-up to the enormously popular 2024 release, Black Myth: Wukong, is currently being worked on. During the 2025 Gamescom Opening Night Live event, it was announced that Black Myth: Zhong Kui would be the final reveal.

Alongside the reveal, there was a trailer that showcased the design of the legendary figure, Zhong Kui. This divine entity possesses the ability to battle and devour spirits and demons.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve got to say, the short sneak peek at Zhong Kui has me intrigued! Although it doesn’t reveal much, one thing that caught my eye was the authentic-sounding British dub – impressive indeed!

From what I can gather, it seems like Zhong Kui is gearing up to join the ranks of Wukong, meaning we’re in for some tough battles against formidable adversaries. And let’s not forget about that enormous sword shown in the trailer – a clear indication that we’ll be wielding some serious power!

In its debut month on the market, Game Science’s creation, Black Myth: Wukong, garnered remarkable success with sales of approximately 20 million units. Notably, this figure was achieved solely on PC and PS5 platforms. Remarkably, the game managed to sell an astounding 18 million units within the first fortnight of release. Furthermore, it emerged as the most downloaded title on PS5 in Japan, Europe, and North America during August 2024.

A sequel is necessary since it follows logically, and Zhong Kui seems to be not just an advancement but also a fresh take offering potential novel gameplay experiences as opposed to Wukong.

The game titled “Black Myth: Wukong” has a Metascore of 76 on PlayStation 5 and 81 on PC. Despite its impressive sales figures, several critical issues were pointed out in the reviews, which we are aiming to address and improve upon in any potential sequel.

As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t contain my excitement because Black Myth: Wukong, a title I’ve been eagerly anticipating, will be gracing Xbox platforms as early as August 20! Alas, Black Myth: Zhong Kui remains a tantalizing prospect for the future.
