Summary
- Designer Jasper Morrison has collaborated with French silverware brand Puiforcat to create a new cutlery collection called “Jersey.”
- The simple collection is crafted from Japanese cherry wood with a Japanese lacquer finish, reflecting Morrison’s “Super Normal” design approach.
Designer Jasper Morrison, known for his streamlined style, has applied his minimalist approach to create a set of cutlery made from beautiful Japanese cherry wood.
Crafted exclusively for the esteemed French cutlery company Puiforcat, the “Jersey” series encompasses a fork, a knife, a spoon, serving utensils, and a set of chopsticks.
The “Jersey” line, specifically designed for Puiforcat’s French silverware, includes a fork, knife, spoon, serving cutlery, and a pair of chopsticks.
Every item is coated with a delicate layer of Japanese lacquer, enhancing the intricate textures and designs within the wood’s grain. By doing this, not only does it make the adorned wood appear more vibrant, but it also provides a protective antibacterial film that allows the pieces to breathe effortlessly.
The layout of the stage is minimalistic and modest, with Morrison preferring the materials themselves to be the main focal point. This style aligns with his “Super Normal” philosophy, which he explained as a response to the design industry’s tendency to stray from its origins and the fundamental idea that designers are meant to cultivate and enhance the human-made environment.
“Super Normal is a bridge between the two worlds, an attempt to reunite them,” he continues.
This time around, the prestigious brand, established in 1820 by Emile and Joseph-Marie Puiforcat, is exploring a new direction with its collections. Originally, these collections were intended to complement a dinnerware set designed by Donald Judd, entitled “Dinner Service”.
Jersey is available to purchase now, with buying information available via the Puiforcat website.
