With the release of the final part of Stranger Things Season 5 on Netflix, a popular fan theory about Eddie Munson’s possible return as a vampire has been circulating online. However, the show’s creators have confirmed that this won’t happen. The theory’s persistence highlights how much fans still love and connect with Eddie’s character.
In Season 4, Eddie Munson, portrayed by Joseph Quinn, died bravely fighting demobats in the Upside Down. Ever since, fans have been looking for hints that he might return, focusing on the show’s frequent use of Dungeons & Dragons. A popular theory suggests Eddie could be connected to Kas the Bloody-Handed, a D&D character who turns into a vampire after double-crossing Vecna.
Even though fans are hoping, there’s nothing to suggest Eddie will be back in Stranger Things Season 5, either as a survivor or through any kind of supernatural reappearance.
Why fans thought Eddie Munson could return as a vampire
The idea that Eddie’s death was connected to vampires became popular because he was attacked by creatures resembling bats, which are often linked to vampires in movies and stories. Some fans also speculated that details about the character Kas could be used as a plot twist in the final season of the show.
Throughout Season 5, Eddie isn’t shown in any memories, visions, or even within the Upside Down. His death is primarily used to help Dustin cope with his grief and to emphasize that Eddie’s story is truly over.
In early December 2025, Ross Duffer responded to fan theories, specifically addressing the idea that Eddie might be a vampire. He clearly stated, “Eddie is not a vampire,” hoping to end the speculation, though fans are still discussing it.
Okay, so a lot of people have been wondering about vampire connections in the latest season, and I wanted to clear something up. While Season 5 Part 2 does mention vampires, it’s not related to Eddie Munson at all! In Episode 5, Kali shares a really unsettling detail about Dr. Kay – he used to take her blood constantly. She describes him as ‘a kind of vampire,’ but it’s definitely a metaphorical comparison – she’s using the term to express how draining and predatory he was, not that he was actually a vampire!
Dr. Kay was collecting Kali’s blood to continue the research Dr. Brenner started – trying to give pregnant women powers similar to Eleven’s. The series confirms that vampires aren’t part of this story.
