James Gunn’s digital adaptation of Superman, featuring David Corenswet, has made its debut on screens less than a month after it hit theaters. This film has been a massive success at the box office, with audiences appreciating the engaging plotline and the captivating dynamics between the characters.
Originally, the boss of DC had shared that the upcoming superhero movie would be available on online streaming platforms. However, some fans are curious to know the rationale behind this decision, since it seems to deviate from the typical 45-90 day window for such releases.
To clear up the confusion surrounding the theories, Gunn explained to Screen Rant that the choice made was a complex one.
James Gunn reflects on Superman’s OTT release
During a chat with media outlet Gunn, he mentioned that viewers should catch up on Superman before the second season of Peacemaker is released. He clarified, “It’s quite intricate, but basically, it’s due to Peacemaker. Initially, I believed Peacemaker was set for release next month.
He also added that due to factors beyond their control, the release of “Peacemaker” was inevitable. At the end of the day, he wanted everyone who wished to see Superman to be able to do so, even those who hadn’t managed to get to a theater before “Peacemaker”. This is essentially why it happened.
Regarding the movie, Superman’s storyline unfolds before that of Peacemaker. The series is set to feature notable characters like Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, and Maxwell Lord as well.
Simultaneously with the digital launch of Superman, there’ll be some extra treats for you – a unique concert, cut-out scenes, and Robb’s personal message to fans, hidden within the director’s commentary section.
Additionally featuring Rachel Brosnahan and Nicholas Hoult, this film casts them as Lois Lane and Lex Luthor, respectively, in the leading roles.
In this movie, when Superman finds himself embroiled in disputes both domestically and internationally, doubts about his actions arise, providing an opportunity for the wealthy tech magnate Lex Luthor to eliminate the Man of Steel permanently. The question arises as to whether Lois Lane, a determined journalist, and Krypto, Superman’s canine companion, can aid him in overcoming this predicament before it’s too late.
Superman is available to stream on Prime Video.
