As a lifestyle expert and avid movie enthusiast, I am thrilled to share my perspective on the recently released sequel to “My Spy,” titled “My Spy: The Eternal City.” Having had the pleasure of watching this American spy comedy on Amazon Prime Video, I can confidently say that it is a must-watch for fans of the first film and newcomers alike.
The second part of “My Spy,” titled “The Eternal City,” was released on Amazon Prime Video in the US on July 18, 2024. In this comedy-spy film, JJ (played by Dave Bautista) and Sophie (Chloe Coleman) are back with a new adventure. Initially, they go to Italy for a school excursion, but their trip takes an unexpected turn when they stumble upon a terrorist plot targeting the Vatican.
In the new installation, Kristen Schaal and Ken Jeong reprise their roles as before, with Dave Bautista as JJ and Chloe Coleman as Sophie. Notably absent is Parisa Fitz-Henley, who portrayed Sophie’s mother in the initial film.
In “My Spy: The Eternal City,” JJ and Sophie’s exciting escapades continue with a fresh installment full of laughter, heart-pounding actions, and strong bonds, all set amidst the breathtaking landscapes of Rome and Vatican City.
Dave Bautista
In the sequel, Dave Bautista portrays J.J., a respected CIA agent and friend of Sophie’s, who features prominently after the first movie’s conclusion. Their bond remains strong in the second film, with Chloe inviting him to join her on a school excursion to Italy, where they continue to enjoy each other’s company.
Dave Bautista is a versatile talent who has made a full-time living as an actor, previously excelled in professional wrestling, and has a background in mixed martial arts. Throughout his wrestling and MMA career, he achieved several noteworthy milestones. In the acting world, Bautista gained significant recognition for portraying key roles in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy series (2014-present) and the last two Avengers movies (2014-2023). He also stars in upcoming projects like Dune (2021) and its sequel, Dune 2 (2024).
Ken Jeong
In this movie, Ken Jeong, an accomplished actor recognized for adding humor to his parts and a popular stand-up comedian, makes a striking return as David Kim, J.J.’s CIA superior. Jeong infuses the character with plenty of amusing moments, making the film even more engaging through his unique brand of wit and vitality.
In the hit Hangover movies, Jeong made his breakthrough appearance, which greatly expanded his recognition. This role significantly boosted his reputation as a skilled comedian and earned him acclaim for bringing Mr. Chow’s quirky character to life. His unique personality and impeccable comic timing continue to engage viewers in various productions beyond the Hangover franchise.
Ken Jeong’s acting career goes beyond films. He has made a mark in television with impressive achievements. On the hit TV show “Community,” which ran from 2009 to 2015, he showcased his comedic range, gaining a large fan base as a result.
Chloe Coleman
In the sequel to “My Spy,” titled “My Spy: The Eternal City,” Chloe Coleman once again plays the character of Sophie. In this new installment, Sophie has grown older and more experienced, as suggested in the film’s preview. She persuades J.J. to travel with her to Italy, highlighting the deep connection between them.
Due to Chloe being a new actor, she has fewer recognized roles compared to her peers as depicted in the list. Notably, some of her significant contributions to film and television are “Gunpowder Milkshake” released in 2021, “Big Little Lies,” which spanned from 2017 to 2019, and “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves,” slated for 2023.
Kristen Schaal
In “My Spy: The Eternal City,” Kristen Schaal portrays Bobbi, a reliable tech consultant and dear friend to J.J. Bobbi offers J.J. essential help whenever he is in need.
She is recognized for her work on BoJack Horseman (2014-2020), Bob’s Burgers (2011-present), and The Daily Show (20018-2016).
