As a dedicated follower of the royal family, I can’t help but admire the strength and grace that Princess Catherine (Kate Middleton) has shown throughout her journey. The decision to accept the title of Princess of Wales was not an easy one for her, given the immense shadow cast by her mother-in-law, Princess Diana.
Kate Middleton chose to embrace the title of Princess of Wales, but it wasn’t an easy choice for her. In September 2022, when King Charles took the throne, Middleton received this prestigious royal title, while Prince William was designated as the heir to the British monarchy.
Nevertheless, she foresaw the challenging comparisons that would be drawn due to the enduring association between the Princess of Wales title and Princess Diana from the 1980s onwards. To steer clear of being labeled as a successor to the People’s Princess, it is alleged that she opted against accepting the royal name, as claimed by author Robert Jobson in his recently published book.
Author Robert Jobson is set to publish his book titled “Catherine, The Princess of Wales: A Biography of the Future Queen” on August 6th. In this work, he delves deeply into how Kate Middleton, the princess in question, initially hesitated to adopt the same title that her mother-in-law, Princess Diana, held before her untimely death at age 36 in 1997, due to her reluctance to be associated with such a title.
For years after her death, Diana was known as “The Princess of Wales” among her people, and this made Queen Camilla choose not to use the “Princess” title when she married into the British royal family in 2005. Instead, she became known as the Duchess of Cornwall.
On July 26th, an extract from the book was shared by The Daily Mail suggesting that at age 42, this royal figure may be considering taking over the role previously held by her late mother-in-law. According to the book, she acknowledged the comparison that would inevitably be drawn between herself and Diana, whose sudden death stirred an immense wave of anger and sorrow. And indeed, the book asserts, she was correct in her assumption.
In 2011, when Prince William married Kate Middleton, there was a lot of discussion about whether she would become the Princess of Wales. This topic even caught the attention of the royal family. The anticipation surrounding Middleton’s role and potential title only increased the spotlight on her, which she found challenging because she is a private person.
At a certain stage, Middleton contemplated emulating Queen Camilla by declining the title of Princess of Wales. However, during their 2010 engagement, Middleton and Prince William effectively conveyed their message that no one aimed to replace his mother in her shoes, as PEOPLE reported. He proposed to his long-term partner, Kate, using his mother’s 18-carat sapphire engagement ring, a great privilege for her to bear.
Catherine, the Princess, has pledged to uphold the duties of the Princess of Wales following King Charles’ coronation, hoping that the public will welcome her with this title while continuing to honor Princess Diana’s legacy. According to Jobson’s book, “Catherine has been in the limelight for a sufficient amount of time that people have come to appreciate her for her unique qualities.”
Previously, Prince William, now-husband-to-be, expressed confidence in his fiancée’s abilities, indicating that she would be given the chance to create her own path and fulfill her destiny, all the while being assured of Kate Middleton’s talents.
Indeed, the royal pair takes great pride in their regal titles and their deep affection for Wales, largely due to their historical ties with the country. As newlywed royals, Prince William and Kate Middleton established a flourishing life in Wales, and it was during this time that they welcomed their firstborn, Prince George, into the family.
Prince William, formerly a helicopter pilot for the Royal Air Force based in Wales, shows great interest in fostering connections with the Welsh community and aspires to play an active role in advancing and promoting their nation’s progress.
