Wake Up Dead Man Trailer Drops as Benoit Blanc Returns for His Darkest Knives Out Mystery

Netflix has unveiled the first trailer for Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, offering a preview of Daniel Craig reprising his role as Benoit Blanc. Director Rian Johnson describes this installment as the most suspenseful one yet.

Wake Up Dead Man hits select theaters on November 26 before streaming on Netflix on December 12.

Netflix Sets Up Blanc’s Most Dangerous Case

The latest trailer shows this case will be different from Benoit Blanc’s usual investigations. He describes it as “perfectly impossible” as he travels to upstate New York to investigate a mysterious death within a close-knit church group.

Johnson describes the script for the next film as his most challenging yet, suggesting a darker and more serious story than the previous two, Knives Out and Glass Onion.

A Church Community in Crisis

The story follows Jud Duplenticy (Josh O’Connor), a once-promising boxer who becomes a priest. He’s sent to help Monsignor Jefferson Wicks (Josh Brolin) at his church, where problems are already brewing even before a murder takes place.

The congregation includes:

  • Martha Delacroix (Glenn Close),
  • Samson Holt (Thomas Haden Church),
  • Vera Draven (Kerry Washington),
  • Cy Draven (Daryl McCormack),
  • Nat Sharp (Jeremy Renner),
  • Lee Ross (Andrew Scott),
  • Simone Vivane (Cailee Spaeny).

After a death shocks the whole town, police chief Geraldine Scott (Mila Kunis) asks detective Blanc to investigate.

Rian Johnson Leans Into Dark Comedy

O’Connor was attracted to the role because of the way Johnson’s comedic talent balanced the film’s more intense moments. Kunis herself playfully describes the movie as having a blend of humor and suspense, calling it “Scooby-Doo shit” in the trailer.

Johnson wants to create a genuinely suspenseful mystery, but the film’s lighthearted feel still comes from the charismatic detective as he unravels hidden secrets, family conflicts, and an increasingly threatening situation.
