Venice Film Festival 2025 Full Lineup: From Dwayne Johnson’s The Smashing Machine to Julia Roberts-Andrew Garfield’s After the Hunt

In about a month, the Venice Film Festival is due to take place, and they’ve revealed the list of movies to be screened. This festival will pave the way for the approaching awards season, featuring top-tier Hollywood productions while it’s running for that week.

In this event, two highly anticipated films are among the favorites: “The Smashing Machine” starring Dwayne Johnson and “After the Hunt,” featuring Julia Roberts. This year, both actors will make their first appearance at the ceremony with these films.

Instead of last year’s weak presence, Netflix is making a significant impact this time around with two of their titles being contenders at the film festival. “Frankenstein” and “A House of Dynamite” have been generating quite a buzz, causing excitement among movie enthusiasts about their upcoming releases.

Among The Smashing Machine, After the Hunt, and this season’s most anticipated movies, one is The Voice of Hind Rajab. This film is based on a true event where a young girl finds herself trapped in a burning car. As she calls the fire department, they maintain contact with her while an ambulance makes its way to her location.

Additionally, director Yorgos Lanthimos makes a return to the festival with his latest production titled “Bugonia”. This film is a reimagining of the South Korean sci-fi movie “Save the Green Planet!”, and it features frequent collaborator Emma Stone in the cast.

This year’s lineup is bursting with thrilling films that will leave both movie enthusiasts and beginners on the brink of excitement. Notably, some renowned directors such as Park Chan Wook, François Ozon, and Laszlo Nemes are coming back to grace the event.

Regarding the prestigious Golden Lion Award, it is set to be bestowed upon German filmmaker Werner Herzog and actress Kim Novak, who gained fame in Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo.

At the same gathering, the two-time Academy Award recipient, Alexander Payne, will take on the role of the jury president for the competition. He will be accompanied by Fernanda Torres, Mohammad Rasoulof, Stéphane Brizé, Maura Delpero, Zhao Tao, and Cristian Mungiu during this panel.

The Venice Film Festival kicks off on August 27, featuring the movie “La Grazia,” directed by Paolo Sorrentino, and wraps up on September 6 with the screening of “Dog 51,” directed by Cedric Jimenez.
