US Might Actually Create a Bitcoin Reserve This Year – Or So They Say 🤔

So, apparently, the United States government might just pull a surprise and create a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve before this year is out. According to Alex Thorn, the big brain over at Galaxy Digital’s research team, this isn’t just wishful thinking – it’s a “strong chance.” Cue the dramatic music.

But, hold your horses! Not everyone in crypto-land is buying the hype.

In a very serious post on X (formerly Twitter, for those who missed the memo), Thorn declared, “I still think there’s a strong chance the US government will announce this year that it has formed the strategic Bitcoin reserve (SBR) and is formally holding BTC as a strategic asset.” Because nothing screams “strategic” like hodling digital gold on the government’s watch. 💼💰

He also threw in, “Market seems to be completely underpricing the likelihood of such an announcement.” Translation: The cool kids don’t believe it, but maybe they should.

Signs the Bitcoin Gods Are Smiling on This Plan

Okay, rewind to March, when President Trump decided to put pen to paper and sign an executive order creating the Strategic Bitcoin (BTC) Reserve and something called the US Digital Asset Stockpile. Fancy, right? Except it’s all a bit vagué and no official playbook has shown up yet.

But wait! Tuesday brought some hope – US lawmakers introduced a bill telling the Treasury Department to go full Sherlock and investigate whether this Bitcoin reserve idea is even doable. Meanwhile, CryptoMoon (yes, that’s a thing) reported on July 31 that Trump’s crypto liaison still really, really wants this reserve to happen, even if it’s just a wink and a nod in the latest crypto policy report. 🕵️‍♂️✨

On the flip side, the former head honcho of CoinRoutes, Dave Weisburger, played the party pooper and suggested we’re more likely looking at 2026 for the Bitcoin reserve debut. Patience, dear friends.

Bitcoiners Panicking About Being Left Behind (Again)

Weisburger also muttered something about the administration being “too smart to announce ANYTHING until AFTER they accumulate to their initial target.” Which, in layman’s terms, means hush-hush until the juicy stash is secured. Secret squirrel mode: activated. 🐿️

Some Bitcoin cheerleaders are biting their nails, though. Samson Mow, founder of Jan3, told a magazine back in June that the US “has to start” buying Bitcoin this year, or else they’ll get totally outpaced. His nightmare? Pakistan zooming past them like they’re standing still. 🚀😱

And just to keep things spicy, on Wednesday Kyrgyzstan (yep, not exactly the usual suspect) pushed a bill to create their own state crypto reserve. Meanwhile, on August 6, Bitcoin Indonesia – yes, an entire group devoted to this stuff – were chatting with their officials about how HI-TECH money could boost the economy. Global crypto drama, anyone?
