Tyshawn Jones Slaps Supreme With $26 Million USD Defamation Lawsuit

26-year-old professional skateboarder Tyshawn Jones is suing Supreme for millions due to claims of defamation and broken contracts, as stated in court papers related to the case.

In the lawsuit filed on May 12th in Manhattan’s Supreme Court, Jones is asking for $25 million in damages plus $1.25 million he claims was owed from his original deal with the brand. The lengthy complaint alleges that after working with Supreme for 13 years starting at age 11, the partnership ended last September, which happened to be just before Supreme was acquired by Luxottica. Supreme argues that Jones violated the contract by wearing Marc Jacobs in a photoshoot in August 2024, even though he had also modeled for other high-profile brands such as Louis Vuitton, Balenciaga, and Tiffany & Co. from 2022. However, Jones contends that he was open about his other brand campaigns and claims that Supreme executives did not voice any concerns.

Jones alleges that his dismissal was merely a disguise for cost-cutting measures, alleging Supreme misled “numerous outside parties” by stating he was let go due to a contract breach. The lawsuit further accuses Supreme of making malicious and false statements, tarnishing Jones’ reputation as an unreliable and risky figure that no brand would want to associate with. Jones contends that Supreme has damaged his budding career and effectively blacklisted him from other brands or ventures. The suit also mentions the close association between Jones and Supreme, likening it to the bond shared by Nike and Michael Jordan. In an interview with the New York Post, Jones expressed sadness about the situation but felt compelled to act for his own career and future generations of skateboarders. He added that the success of Supreme relies heavily on the input of young talent, and those contributions should be acknowledged.
