Toyota Unveils Updated GR Yaris with Motorsports-Inspired Upgrades

Toyota’s high-performance division, TOYOTA GAZOO Racing (TGR), is now accepting orders for the upgraded GR Yaris in Japan. This enhanced compact sports car has been fine-tuned based on experiences from motor racing, such as the Super Taikyu Series and Japanese Rally Championship. The improvements focus on enhancing both its performance capabilities and the driver’s overall experience behind the wheel.

Fundamental to these updates is a more advanced GAZOO Racing Direct Automatic Transmission that Toyota has optimized. They’ve fine-tuned the gear shift control for smoother transitions, made the acceleration more responsive during aggressive driving, and perfected shift timing for maximum speed bursts. The bond between driver and vehicle has been strengthened through reinforced chassis components, a finessed suspension system, and enhanced steering feedback, which was developed in collaboration with skilled racers.

Additionally, TGR revealed that starting from autumn, they will provide the Aero Performance Package, initially unveiled as a concept at Tokyo Auto Salon 2025, as a factory-installed option. Created after intense racing tests, this package encompasses features like a vented aluminum hood, front lip spoiler, fender ducts, fuel tank undercovers, an adjustable rear wing, and rear bumper vents. These components enhance aerodynamic performance, stability, and cooling without affecting everyday practicality.

As a thrilled admirer, I’m excited to share that every single trim level of Toyota now comes equipped with Toyota Safety Sense, and an exhilarating vertical parking brake reminiscent of rally style is available across the range! Pricing in Japan starts from approximately ¥3,560,000 JPY ($24,886 USD) for the manual RC and peaks at ¥5,330,000 JPY ($37,261 USD) for the automatic RZ “High Performance” model. Deliveries are all set to commence on May 6th – mark your calendars!
