Tom Morello has one huge complaint about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

As a lifelong rock enthusiast who’s spent countless hours headbanging to the beats of Iron Maiden, I can’t help but feel a sense of injustice when it comes to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame‘s apparent oversight. It’s like they’ve forgotten that metal isn’t just a genre, it’s a way of life!

Once upon a time, as a passionate gamer and music enthusiast like myself, I found myself in the shoes of Tom Morello, the ex-guitarist of Rage Against the Machine. Back then, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame seemed to have it out for me, or so it felt. Instead of holding a grudge, I decided to extend a helping hand. I became one of their nominating members.

Approximately ten years back, Morello became a member of the Rock Hall. His grievance revolved around the fact that contemporary rock bands seemed indifferent towards the Rock Hall, as they didn’t perceive groups like theirs being honored with induction. Contrarily, it appeared as though the museum was primarily inducting older artists, pop sensations, and a few influencers. The peculiar aspect of this situation was that the museum seemed to be neglecting the “rock” essence of its title by omitting some deserving acts.

Morello held a conversation with Jon Landau, who managed Bruce Springsteen back then, regarding concerns about the Rock Hall’s questionable reputation. At that point, Landau was one of the museum’s top officials and had significant say in deciding who could nominate potential inductees.

Tom Morello is peeved that Iron Maiden is not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Morello shared with Landau, “For a young baseball player playing little league, the aspiration is to build a career so remarkable that it leads to the Baseball Hall of Fame. However, I mentioned that many up-and-coming rock and roll guitarists don’t hold the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in high regard. None of their favorite bands have been inducted there.

During a recent discussion on Eddie Trunk’s well-regarded podcast, Morello expressed thoughts about bands who got inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame once voices like his own had been considered. These are people who have a deep connection with rock music, having both known and cherished it. Some might question the validity of the Hall if acts such as Judas Priest are not included, suggesting that the Hall’s purpose could be called into question altogether.

Despite the fact that one iconic band has yet to be inducted into the Hall, this continues to be a point of contention for Morello. The band in question is Iron Maiden, a metal act that has significantly influenced the genre since its inception. For Morello, it seems unfair if Iron Maiden is not included in the Hall, given that fans have long wanted to witness their induction. This argument might not resonate with the members of Iron Maiden, particularly lead singer Bruce Dickinson, but it’s a strong point nonetheless.

Morello expressed strongly to Trunk, “I would gnaw off my leg like a trapped coyote if it means getting Iron Maiden inducted. Although there are numerous other worthy acts, for me, Iron Maiden’s exclusion from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is an unforgivable oversight…And while Bruce Dickinson may not show interest, I do as a fan. I care deeply about it. So, I’m determined to use whatever modest influence I have to help get Iron Maiden into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
