Summary

  • Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning director Christopher McQuarrie shared on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast that Tom Cruise is serious about making a Les Grossman film
  • Les Grossman was his character on Tropic Thunder, a mouthy producer with a temper
  • The two have had real discussions about bringing the character to life once again in its own film

Fans of the movie “Tropic Thunder” could be in for a surprise! Director Christopher McQuarrie, who also helmed “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning,” revealed that actor Tom Cruise is contemplating making a film centered around his character Les Grossman.

On Josh Horowitz’s “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, the director mentioned that he and Tom Cruise have actually discussed the idea of creating a solo Les Grossman film. McQuarrie stated, “The talks about Les Grossman we’ve had are hilariously funny. [We] are indeed discussing it seriously and deliberating on the best way to approach it. In the end, it boils down to understanding what that character truly represents.

Fans of Les Grossman might recall him as the blunt, adversarial film producer known for his fiery temper and iconic large hands. McQuarrie also mentioned that imagining a Les Gossman movie helped him and Cruise to take a break from filming Final Reckoning, “We didn’t focus on the film structure, we improvised scenes. Just being able to sit at a breakfast table, not discussing the movie for a moment, was such a relief. And playing Les Grossman with Tom at the table, it was one of the best parts of making this film. It was all the fun and planning we were doing, while tackling the present.

It remains to be seen if this film will come true.
