Three weird songs that you will want to play over and over

As a music enthusiast who’s spent a good chunk of his life immersed in the strange, eclectic, and downright bizarre corners of the musical universe, I can confidently say these three tracks are some of the most delightfully peculiar gems I’ve ever stumbled upon.

In contemporary life and on the radio, many songs share similar musical structures and sounds with one another. While some tracks stand out as superior, the overall differences aren’t vast. However, when an unconventional yet excellent song emerges, it stands out as exceptional.

Here are three songs coming up, each serving as an example. One song was specifically designed to prevent train accidents, and it appears to be effective in doing so.

Apart from them, the other two behaviors seem quite unusual. One transforms into a full-blown music enthusiast, while the other refers to someone losing their sanity. Despite this, the pleasure they bring is undeniably genuine.

Three weird songs that you will want to play for your friends

Frank Zappa – “Muffin Man”

As a die-hard fan, I must admit that Zappa’s music was never predictable. He had this knack for crafting bizarre tunes, and I loved it! His creative spirit always pushed him to challenge the norm, often resulting in exceptional pieces of work. Yet, despite his penchant for keeping us on our toes, Zappa was undeniably a virtuoso musician.

This piece kicks off by presenting the character of the Muffin Man, followed by his personal musings. It then transforms into a fiery, impressive number, showcasing fantastic guitar skills. Few artists could have crafted such a song, and even fewer could have made something beautiful out of such an unusual concept.

Napoleon XIV – “They’re Coming to Take Me Away, Ha-Haaa!”

Initially, it appears that Mister Napoleon may struggle with codependency and should consider discussing this with a professional counselor. It might be best for both parties if he lets go of the relationship and focuses on personal growth instead. Moreover, given the lyrics in the song, it seems reasonable to assume that the other person’s departure was justified, as Napoleon appears to exhibit signs of instability or eccentricity.

The title’s phrasing seems unusual with three “a”s at the end of “Haaa”. It raises questions about the person who approved this song at the record label, as they might need a sanity check. However, paradoxically, this song becomes a tune that stubbornly sticks in your head. You feel compelled to share it with friends who haven’t heard it yet, much like the infamous videotape in the movie The Ring.

Emily Lubitz – “Dumb Ways to Die”

What might be stranger than the song itself is that it was used as a Public Service Announcement by Metro Trains in Australia. The song is, as you guessed, a funny little tune about stupid ways to pass on, and some of them most people wouldn’t have access to (there is a bit about taking your helmet off in space).

The song is catchy as heck, though. The lyrics to the chorus are, obviously, “Dumb ways to die,” which repeats often and has a cadence that forces you to hum along. It’s a cute track with a great video.
