The newest episodes of Stranger Things season 5 have gotten fans talking. Volume 2, released on Netflix on Christmas Day, features three episodes that build towards the final showdown with Vecna. However, one of these episodes has unfortunately become infamous for the wrong reasons, marking a first for the series.
The seventh episode, called “The Bridge,” has received some of the lowest ratings of any episode in Stranger Things so far.
Rotten Tomatoes gives the episode an 84% rating from critics and a 73% audience score. This makes it slightly better received than “The Lost Sister” from season 2, which has the lowest rating of any episode in the series. These ratings are based on reviews from critics and feedback from over 2,500 viewers.
A major topic of discussion after the latest episode was the unexpected breakup of Nancy Wheeler and Jonathan Byers. Many fans thought the split felt sudden and didn’t make much sense.
The breakup of Jancy, a popular couple on the show, caused confusion among viewers, with some even doubting if it actually happened. One fan commented that the actors, Natalia and Charlie, didn’t seem aware of the split during filming and that they hadn’t addressed it on screen. The show’s creators, the Duffer Brothers, later confirmed that the characters had officially broken up.
A particularly discussed moment in the episode was Will Byers’ heartfelt confession. While many viewers appreciated the scene’s sincerity, others strongly criticized it. One person online reacted negatively, claiming Netflix was prioritizing a “gay agenda” and that it detracted from the show’s main plot. This comment ignited online debate, with numerous fans rushing to support the storyline and Will’s character development.
Although opinions varied, some performances were particularly impressive. Sadie Sink is still earning high marks for her portrayal of Max, particularly in her scenes with Caleb McLaughlin.
Many viewers especially loved the connection between Dustin and Steve this season, finding it to be a powerful emotional center of the show. One fan commented that their storyline was a highlight, praising the complex emotions and incredible performances of actors Gaten Matarazzo and Joe Keery.
Currently, season 5 of Stranger Things has an 84% rating on the Tomatometer and a 65% audience score on the Popcornmeter. As the final episodes haven’t aired yet, some viewers are concerned about how the series will conclude, particularly given the often-disappointing endings of other popular shows.
