The Porsche 919 Hybrid Makes Its Way Back to Bangkok

I’m thrilled to share that as a dedicated Porsche fan, I’m excited about their latest exhibition at Curvistan Bangkok – “Electrifying Past. Present. Future.” This unique display, collaboratively curated by Stefan Bogner, showcases Porsche’s groundbreaking journey in electric mobility. From the early 1900s to today’s electrifying high-performance vehicles, we get a fascinating look at their innovations throughout the years.

The star attraction at this exhibition is none other than the Porsche 919 Hybrid, an advanced endurance racer that ruled the World Endurance Championship (WEC) and Le Mans since its debut in 2014. This marvel of technology boasts a dual energy recovery system that converts braking and exhaust energy into electric power, producing a whopping 900 hp. This hybrid racer not only marked a new era for Porsche’s racing victories but also paved the way for their current lineup of electric vehicles.

The exhibit additionally spotlights Porsche’s initial electric explorations, such as the Lohner-Porsche from 1900, recognized as the world’s first electric vehicle with wheel-hub motors. Interestingly, the design blueprint of these wheel-hub motors is reflected in the Porsche Taycan Turbo S Mission E wheels – this could be a deliberate reference or happenstance. Other groundbreaking inventions showcased include the 918 Spyder, a plug-in hybrid supercar that broke Nürburgring lap records and the Taycan, Porsche’s inaugural all-electric sports sedan, which has set new standards in electric vehicle performance and charging technology.

It’s important to mention that the Porsche 919 Hybrid isn’t making its first appearance in Bangkok – it previously visited back in 2015 during a global victory tour. The endurance racer made an unforgettable journey through Chinatown, as captured in the video below. For those living in or visiting Bangkok, you have a unique opportunity to see this remarkable vehicle up close for a short period of time, as Curvistan will be displaying the 919 and related exhibition to the public.
