The popular Critical Role campaign, The Mighty Nein, is getting an animated TV series on Prime Video. This time, Matt Mercer, who usually runs the game as Game Master, will also play a main character – the beloved NPC Essek. Fans wondered if this meant the end of the fun tradition of hidden Matt Mercer appearances, which started with Prime Video’s first Critical Role series, The Legend of Vox Machina. But showrunner Tasha Huo has confirmed that hidden Matt Mercers will continue to appear in The Mighty Nein series, even with Mercer taking on a central role.
Here’s what Tasha Huo had to say about how we’ll see Matt Mercer appear in The Mighty Nein TV show:
It’s great to see Matthew playing Essek – he’s a fantastic character and deserves the spotlight. However, it seems like there’s always another Matthew involved somehow!
It’s great to see Matt Mercer’s talent recognized! Fans love trying to spot him in his various roles, and we’re happy that won’t stop with The Mighty Nein. He played many characters in The Legend of Vox Machina – everything from guards and zombies to major figures like Sylas Briarwood. We don’t know yet how he’ll appear in The Mighty Nein TV series, or which characters he’ll voice, but we’re sure it will be just as entertaining. Keep an eye (and ear!) out for him! The new series, The Mighty Nein, begins November 19th with the release of its first three episodes. You can start watching the original The Mighty Nein campaign now and guess which characters from Matt Mercer might make surprise appearances!
