The third season of HBO’s The Last of Us will be quite different from the first two, diving into the story of Abby (played by Kaitlyn Dever) and the events leading up to and following Joel’s death. This season will adapt the second half of the game The Last of Us Part II, focusing on the conflict between Abby’s group, the WLF, and a dangerous religious group called the Seraphites. To tell this story, the show needs actors to play siblings Yara and Lev, and according to Deadline, those roles have been cast. Michelle Mao, known for Bridgerton, will play Yara, and Kyriana Kratter, from Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, will play Lev.
The Seraphite siblings are key characters in the game. Lev, in particular, acts as a supportive friend and guide for Abby, helping to shape her storyline. They endure incredibly difficult and violent experiences, which the game developers used to make players more sympathetic towards Abby, who initially appears as the main villain.

Lev is a transgender boy in both the game and the HBO series. While HBO has stated the casting process was open to all, the actor who plays Lev, Ian Alexander, is a biological female who identifies as female.
Kratter appeared in the Disney+ series Star Wars: Skeleton Crew alongside Jude Law and Ryan Kiera Armstrong. Mao recently played a classic evil stepsister in the fourth season of Netflix’s Bridgerton. For the third season of The Last of Us, returning cast members include Dever, Bella Ramsey, Isabela Merced, Gabriel Luna, and Jeffrey Wright. New additions to the cast are Clea DuVall as a Seraphite, Jorge Lendeborg Jr. replacing Danny Ramirez as Manny, and Jason Ritter and Patrick Wilson who will have recurring roles as Hanley, a WLF soldier, and Abby’s father Jerry, respectively.
HBO expects to drop The Last of Us season three some time in 2027.
