In a new development, the partnership between De Bethune and Swizz Beatz is moving into its third phase, unveiling the DB Kind of Two GMT – a double-faced watch boasting both intricate watchmaking technology and aesthetic finesse.
As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but be thrilled about this latest addition that beautifully embodies the harmonious fusion of functionality and aesthetics, just like the DW5 and DBD models from Seasons 1 and 2. What sets it apart is its ingenious reversible design, which grants me the ability to switch between two captivating dials with minimal effort. This versatile feature not only adds a touch of uniqueness to my collection but also underscores De Bethune’s unparalleled mastery in creating groundbreaking timepieces.
This watch resides in a case made from 43mm zirconium, polished to a satin finish, along with Grade 5 titanium. It features uniquely redesigned lugs that float for an accurate flipping action, constructed using 42 corrosion-resistant components. The design is enhanced by golden details and hands made from polished blued steel, all accompanied by self-regulating twin barrels.
To overcome the complexities of designing a completely reversible timepiece, De Bethune had to craft an intricate mechanism within their own Swiss workshop in l’Auberson. One face showcases a modern design, highlighting the movement and arranging the display around the balance wheel situated at 6 o’clock. The contrast between polished and satin finishes adds a pleasing interplay of light and depth to this side. Additionally, it incorporates both a jumping seconds complication and a GMT function, showcasing both technical expertise and visual charm.
On the contrary, the traditional GMT design takes inspiration from past DB8 and DB10 models, featuring a central motif intricately hand-engraved (guilloché) that subtly highlights shades of blue, mirroring the brand’s renowned blued hands or suggesting a serene moonlit sea. The sleek, polished steel seconds hand, which jumps, contributes to a poetically elegant appearance, accentuating the watch’s enduring charm.
Just as Swizz Beatz showcases his talent by seamlessly merging various music genres, the DB Kind of Two GMT watch mirrors an exceptional adaptability in its design. With only 10 units produced and priced at $235,000 USD, this exclusive timepiece can be inquired about through De Bethune.
