Team Ikuzawa and Artist Chris Labrooy Launch Superhero-Themed Capsule in Tokyo

Collaboratively, Team Ikuzawa and renowned Scottish artist Chris Labrooy have come together for an engaging partnership, blending Japanese racing heritage with cutting-edge digital art. Notably, this special collection is carefully orchestrated by two influential figures in the industry – Sarah Andelman (through JUST AN IDEA) and Motofumi “POGGY” Kogi.

This collection creatively transforms Team Ikuzawa into a universe of superheroes, taking cues from an old 1988 photo of a Team Ikuzawa motorcyclist stuck on the Isle of Man TT, which Labrooy described as reminiscent of an “extraterrestrial arrival.” It also references the racing scene of the ’80s Japan and the style of zipped-up superheroes. The collection features a red racing jacket, t-shirts decorated with art, collectible badges, sticker sets, and an option for personalizing your jacket at the store.

This pop-up signifies the initial introduction of Team Ikuzawa’s primary line in Japan, offering unique items only available during this event’s duration of one month. Established by the Japanese racing legend Tetsu Ikuzawa, Team Ikuzawa has been redefined under the creative leadership of his daughter, Mai Ikuzawa, into a cultural powerhouse merging racing history with modern design aesthetics. Renowned for his whimsical and fantastical CGI artwork, Labrooy, who has collaborated with brands such as Porsche and Nike, infuses his distinctive surrealism into Team Ikuzawa’s collection.

The upcoming capsule collection will debut on April 17 at SELECT by BAYCREW’S located in Toranomon Hills, Tokyo. For individuals unable to travel to Japan, the global online release is scheduled for May 16. Until then, enjoy a sneak peek of the art in motion in the video provided below.
