As a long-time fan of music videos and MTV, I can hardly contain my excitement for this year’s VMAs! The lineup is absolutely stellar, with Megan Thee Stallion as the host and performer, not to mention Taylor Swift leading the nominations with an impressive ten nods. It seems like it’s going to be a night filled with unforgettable performances and heart-pounding suspense as we wait to see who takes home the coveted Moon Person trophies.
2024’s MTV Video Music Awards (MTV VMAs) are fast approaching! The event, performance, and award presentations will take place on September 11 at UBS Arena, New York City. It’s been some time since the Grammys’ live show, so we’re eagerly waiting for more excitement. The nominations for the VMAs have been announced, the date has been finalized after a dramatic last-minute shift, and the host is all set to put on a great show!
Kick things off with the emcee Megan Thee Stallion leading the way. With two MTV VMAs under her belt for “Hot Girl Summer” and “Savage”, she’s no stranger to the stage. In addition, she has an impressive 21 other VMA nominations, four of which are in 2024. Not only will she be presiding over the event, but Megan Thee Stallion is also scheduled to perform on the night of the awards – definitely shaping up to be a fantastic show!
Regarding the award nominations, not the political campaign, I’ll soon discuss how Donald Trump and Kamala Harris have influenced the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs). The nominations span a broad spectrum, with 25 different categories to be won, including six that honor the technical or professional aspects of video production.
Taylor Swift leads MTV VMA nominations list
It’s possible that some unexpected names will win awards, but it’s not surprising at all to find Taylor Swift dominating the headlines with a whopping ten nominations. This year, Swift’s tour, “The Eras Tour,” and her latest album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” have kept her active and high-profile. To be fair, Post Malone isn’t lagging too far behind with nine nominations. The suspense is on to see who takes home the awards at the event.
There is one award for which we do know the recipient in advance. That’s a special category, the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. It’s a lifetime achievement style award for recording artists or music video directors.
This year, it’s planned that Katy Perry will be honored. The singer, who currently has five MTV VMA awards under her belt, last graced the event in 2017 when she hosted the show and also performed. She’ll be back on stage during the award ceremony to perform once more and receive her well-deserved recognition.
Recalling the evening of the event instantly transports me back to when Trump and Harris graced the stage. Originally set for September 10, the date was shifted from its original schedule during August to steer clear of a confrontation with the first Presidential debate between Trump and Harris. As an imaginary event planner or artist booker for the MTV VMAs, I can only imagine the expletives that would have flown when that call came in, urging a change in plans!
