With fans counting down the days until Season 5 of Stranger Things, the show’s creators, Matt and Ross Duffer, have confirmed that Eddie Munson won’t be appearing. Though Joseph Quinn, the actor who brought the popular Hellfire Club leader and metalhead to life in Season 4, gained widespread recognition, his character’s story has come to an end.
Matt Duffer jokingly said he loves how Joe Quinn messes with fans about his character’s fate, but then confirmed the character is definitely dead. He explained that Quinn has been very busy filming other projects – he’s already completed five movies – making it impossible for him to return to Stranger Things. Duffer emphasized that the character is truly gone, stating, ‘RIP. He’s fully under that ground.’
Eddie died a hero in Season 4, bravely distracting Vecna’s creatures so his friends could attack Creel House in the Upside Down. Unlike some other characters who’ve briefly returned as ghosts after dying, the creators have confirmed Eddie won’t be appearing again.
The interview revealed a new character joining the final season: Dr. Kay, played by Linda Hamilton. She’s a government agent tasked with hunting Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown). According to Matt Duffer, Dr. Kay is both incredibly smart and very intimidating, capable of both scientific work and physical confrontation, including using firearms.
The first part of Stranger Things’ fifth and final season will begin streaming on November 26th. The show features the return of beloved cast members including Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Maya Hawke, Priah Ferguson, Brett Gelman, Cara Buono, Amybeth McNulty, Nell Fisher, Jake Connelly, Alex Breaux, as well as Hamilton and Jamie Campbell Bower.
