Sony has announced a new release date for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. The animated sequel will now come out on June 18, 2027, which is Father’s Day weekend.
Sony has shifted the release date of the film, originally planned for June 4th. The new date allows for more space in the summer movie schedule and will now see it compete directly with Disney and Pixar’s animated film, Gatto, about an Italian cat.
Shifting the release date could allow Sony to benefit from a big family moviegoing weekend, but it will also mean its film competes directly with another visually impressive animated movie from a major studio.
A Big Weekend for Animation
Family-friendly movies, especially those with superhero themes, tend to do well over Father’s Day weekend. The first two *Spider-Verse* films were both popular with audiences and critics, and the third movie is expected to be just as successful.
At CinemaCon in April, Sony gave a sneak peek of the upcoming *Spider-Verse* movie. They showed off some footage and images – including Miles Morales, Gwen Stacy, and Prowler – that haven’t been released to the public yet. Christopher Miller, one of the film’s creators and producers, also shared a few images online.
Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson directed the film. Amy Pascal, Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, Jinko Gotoh, and Avi Arad produced it, with Aditya Sood and Christina Steinberg serving as executive producers.
