Spaceballs 2 Is Now Filming; New Cast Photo Reveals Returning and New Faces

Production has begun on *Spaceballs 2*! Amazon MGM Studios shared the first photo from the set – a picture of the cast during a script read-through.

The photo, in black and white, features both familiar faces and new actors preparing for the highly anticipated sequel to the beloved 1987 film.

Returning Cast Confirmed

Rick Moranis is once again playing Dark Helmet, a notable return to acting after a long break. He’s joined by Bill Pullman, who’s back as Lone Starr, and Daphne Zuniga, reprising her role as Princess Vespa.

These three actors were key to the unique humor of the original *Spaceballs*, a funny movie that poked fun at *Star Wars* and other popular science fiction films from the 1970s and 80s.

New Additions to the Galaxy

Alongside the original cast, *Spaceballs 2* will feature Josh Gad – who also helped write and produce the movie – Keke Palmer in a currently secret part, and Lewis Pullman, son of Bill Pullman, whose character details haven’t been released yet.

Joining the cast are Anthony Carrigan, known for his roles in *Barry* and *Superman*, who is a great fit for the humorous style of *Spaceballs*, and George Wyner, who originally played Colonel Sandurz, will be returning to reprise his role.

Josh Greenbaum, known for directing *Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar*, directed the film. Gad, Benji Samit, and Dan Hernandez wrote the script. Mel Brooks is producing the sequel and also returns to play his iconic role as Yogurt.

Expect lots of Barf

John Candy’s children recently offered an update and said to expect lots of Barf.

Chris Candy shared that during filming, the team kept him updated on the project’s progress, offering glimpses behind the scenes and details about returning cast members. He described it as a very enjoyable undertaking.

He added, “What I can say is that it’s got a lot of Barf and Barf ilk in it.” Watch below.

A Cult Classic Returns

When *Spaceballs* first came out in 1987, it earned $38 million at the box office. While reviews were initially mixed, the movie quickly became a fan favorite thanks to its clever jokes and memorable quotes. For years, people have playfully called a potential sequel *Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money*-a joke even made by the film’s creator, Mel Brooks, back in 2015.

While the story is still secret, the new installment promises to keep the same silly and satirical humor as the first one. It will also playfully mock popular franchises like those from Marvel and DC, and many others.
