Following his collaboration with Dr. Dre on the “Missionary” album, Snoop Dogg is back with a fresh endeavor, delving into gospel music this time around. Entitled “Altar Call“, this 21-track collection will be released via Death Row Records, serving as a profoundly personal homage to his late mother, Beverly Tate, who sadly passed away in 2021. Notably, the album’s release date coincides with what would have been Beverly Tate’s birthday. The cover art showcases a photograph of her, emphasizing the emotional richness of this project.
During an interview with Okayplayer, Snoop discussed how deeply his mother’s influence continues to resonate within him: “My mother’s essence is forever entwined in me. This album embodies the lessons she instilled – to utilize my voice and influence for spreading love and fostering global healing. It’s just another page from the Book of Love.
As a fervent admirer, I’m thrilled to share that my upcoming album features an illustrious and spiritually grounded ensemble of collaborators. This impressive roster includes Jamie Foxx, Robert Glasper, Denaun Porter, Jazze Pha, Charlie Bereal, Jane Handcock, October London, and the Death Row Mass Choir. The first single off the album, a deeply moving ballad entitled “Mother I Miss You,” originally by John P. Kee, is scheduled to be released this coming Friday, April 18th.
