As a gamer who’s spent countless hours immersed in the virtual worlds of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, I can confidently say that Kendrick Lamar‘s impact is reminiscent of CJ’s journey to unite the streets of Los Santos. His ability to bring rival gangs together on his “Pop Out” stage echoes the game’s narrative where CJ bridges the gap between the Bloods and Crips. It’s a testament to Kendrick’s influence, a modern-day King in the realm of hip hop.
Discussions about the impact of Kendrick Lamar’s song “Not Like Us” are still ongoing, over four months since its release.
Snoop Dogg recently talked about the song and explained how Kendrick used it to unite their city of Los Angeles. Well, technically, Snoop is from nearby Long Beach, but he’s considered one of the godfathers of L.A. rap. Snoop is also known to be a member of the Crips, and he’s impressed at how Kendrick brought rival gangs together.
At my Pop Out show, held at Inglewood’s Kia Forum on Juneteenth, I did something extraordinary. I didn’t just give emerging artists a chance to open for me; I extended an invitation to some of my long-time rivals from different gangs to join me on stage for a powerful moment. It seems like it was the Crips, Bloods, Hoovers, Pirus, and others who accepted my call, making their way onto the stage for a memorable photo opportunity.
According to Snoop Dogg, when speaking to Complex, Kendrick effectively brought together the entire city by acting as a king. By turning a potentially violent rap feud into a peaceful scenario, Kendrick provided an opportunity for friends to join him onstage, participate in his video, and become part of his movement, mirroring his unique style of dance and movement.
He said, “If you’re planning to travel with Kendrick, you need to move as Kendrick does.” He further explained, “Kendrick embodies peace and love, he isn’t associated with any gang, yet he comes from a city riddled with them. He unites cities instead. That was the essence of this event.”
He united the whole city, based off him being a king
It has been speculated that the reason Drake lost to Kendrick Lamar in their major rap battle was due to his not being liked as much by the audience. Reading through various social media posts suggests that Drake’s career may have suffered greatly due to this defeat.
That’s far from the truth, though, because he has countless fans around the globe, who will most likely stream and purchase his music the second it’s released. But that certainly doesn’t take away the fact that Drizzy lost the battle. Clearly, he was out-rapped and out maneuvered by K Dot but again, that doesn’t mean his career is kaput.
You can see what else Snoop had to say about Kendrick above.
