‘Sinners’ Set for IMAX Re-Release – Here’s When

Perfect for a spooky Halloween treat, Ryan Coogler’s popular horror movie, Sinners, will be back in certain IMAX cinemas for just one week.

Fans will have another opportunity to see the movie in theaters from October 30th to November 5th. Variety was the first to report this, based on a conversation with the director at a recent showing. Polygon has contacted Warner Bros. to verify the information.

Ryan Coogler wrote, produced, and directed ‘Sinners,’ a story set in the Mississippi Delta in 1932. The film centers on twin brothers, both played by Michael B. Jordan, who return to their hometown and encounter a mysterious, supernatural danger.

The film features Hailee Steinfeld, newcomer Miles Caton, along with Jack O’Connell, Wunmi Mosaku, Jayme Lawson, Omar Benson Miller, and Delroy Lindo.

I was really excited to hear about this project – it was developed by Ryan Coogler’s production company, Proximity Media, and Michael B. Jordan was on board from the very beginning. Warner Bros. picked up the rights back in January 2024 after a pretty intense bidding war, which is always a good sign! They filmed it between April and July, and thankfully, Ludwig Göransson – who’s worked with Coogler a bunch of times before – came back to do the music and also helped out as an executive producer. It’s a great team, and I’m really looking forward to seeing the finished film.

The movie Sinners had its first showing at AMC Lincoln Square in New York City on April 3rd, and was released across the U.S. on April 18th. It went on to earn $366.7 million globally, with $278.6 million of that coming from North America, and critics generally gave it very positive reviews.

Critics and audiences overwhelmingly praised the film. Rotten Tomatoes reported a 97% approval rating from critics, and Metacritic gave it a score of 84 out of 100. Viewers loved it too, with CinemaScore awarding it an “A,” a rare top score for a horror movie – the best in over three decades.

Reviewers particularly praised director Ryan Coogler and actor Michael B. Jordan. A.A. Dowd of Rolling Stone felt Coogler pushed the limits of typical franchise films, while Peter Travers of ABC News declared this their most ambitious and strongest collaboration to date. Some critics found the movie’s shift towards supernatural elements in the second half less engaging than the more realistic beginning, but continued to commend Jordan’s performance.

Director Ryan Coogler has mentioned From Dusk Till Dawn as a key influence on his film, and described its vibe as similar to The Faculty. Now, audiences who weren’t able to see it in IMAX when it first came out – or at all in that impressive format – will get another chance to experience Coogler’s work on a massive screen this Halloween.
