‘Shrek Forever After’ Tops Peacock’s Top 10 Most-Watched Movies List This Week

Peacock is currently popular for a mix of classic cartoons and thrilling movies. Viewers are especially enjoying familiar favorites like The Hunger Games and the Minions films. Recent data shows people are also watching a lot of fun, family-friendly adventures and feel-good romantic comedies. Here are ten titles that represent the wide range of entertainment keeping audiences hooked right now.

‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1’ (2014)

After her home, District 12, is destroyed, Katniss Everdeen ends up in District 13. There, she becomes the reluctant symbol of a growing rebellion against the Capitol, known as the Mockingjay, under the guidance of President Coin. While trying to rescue Peeta Mellark, Katniss also has to deal with the difficult realities of war, including propaganda and political games. The movie builds towards a final showdown that will determine the future of Panem, and powerfully shows the emotional impact of war on a young woman who didn’t choose to be a hero.

‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ (2013)

Okay, so after Katniss and Peeta win the Hunger Games, things don’t exactly get peaceful. They’re sent on this ‘Victory Tour’ which is really just President Snow flexing his power and making veiled threats against Katniss’s family – he’s furious her little act of rebellion sparked something in the districts. Then, to really squash any potential uprising, the Capitol drops a bombshell: a special Hunger Games with previous winners thrown back into the arena. Suddenly, Katniss is fighting for her life again, but she’s also a pawn in a much bigger game she doesn’t even understand. Honestly, this sequel is where the series really hits its stride. The action is incredible, but it’s the political maneuvering and the sense of impending rebellion that truly make it stand out. It’s easily one of the strongest installments in the whole franchise.

‘Despicable Me 4’ (2024)

The latest installment in the popular animated series finds Gru adjusting to life with his baby son, Gru Jr. Their happy home life is disrupted when the villain Maxime Le Mal breaks out of prison, determined to get revenge on Gru. To protect themselves, the whole family goes into hiding in a quiet town called Mayflower, using new identities. At the same time, some Minions are chosen for a special experiment that turns them into super-strong Mega Minions. The movie combines fast-paced, silly comedy with the heartwarming themes of family that the series is known for.

‘Shark Tale’ (2004)

This animated movie follows Oscar, a little fish who longs for fame in Reef City. When a shark dies unexpectedly, Oscar falsely claims to be the one who defeated it, hoping to become a celebrity. He teams up with Lenny, a gentle shark trying to escape his dangerous family, and they pretend to take down more sharks. Their unusual friendship helps them keep up the charade, but their lies soon threaten the entire city. The film is a colorful, funny take on gangster movies, featuring a well-known cast of voice actors.

‘The Proposal’ (2009)

Margaret Tate, a successful book editor in New York City, is facing deportation to Canada because of a technical error. To save her career, she impulsively claims she’s engaged to her often-overworked assistant, Andrew Paxton. He reluctantly agrees to pretend to be her fiancé, but only if they travel to Sitka, Alaska, to celebrate his grandmother’s 90th birthday. During their time in the small, remote town, Margaret and Andrew start to see beyond their work-related frustrations, and an unlikely romance begins to blossom. The film is a classic romantic comedy that thrives on the connection between its two main actors.

‘The Hunger Games’ (2012)

In a dystopian future where North America has fallen apart, the country of Panem controls its citizens through a yearly, televised fight to the death. When Katniss Everdeen’s younger sister is chosen as a participant, Katniss bravely volunteers to take her place. Alongside fellow tribute Peeta Mellark and with guidance from past winner Haymitch Abernathy, she prepares for the deadly competition. The film depicts Katniss’s fight to stay true to herself while battling for survival in a dangerous wilderness. This story became a massive global success and set the benchmark for young adult movie adaptations.

‘Despicable Me 2’ (2013)

Gru has given up being a villain and is now a dad, happily raising his three daughters and running a jam business. But his quiet life is turned upside down when he’s asked by the Anti-Villain League to help catch a thief who stole something dangerous. Partnered with the quirky Agent Lucy Wilde, Gru goes undercover at a mall to find the culprit. While solving the mystery, he starts to fall for Lucy and realizes his daughters want a mom. The movie also gave the Minions much bigger roles, which eventually led to them starring in their own films.

‘Despicable Me’ (2010)

Gru, a supervillain, hatches his biggest plan yet: to steal the moon with a special shrinking ray. To get the ray, he needs to break into the heavily guarded fortress of his rival, Vector. As part of his plan, he adopts three orphaned sisters – Margo, Edith, and Agnes – hoping they’ll help him sneak inside. But as Gru spends time with the girls, their love and kindness start to change him. He’s forced to choose between continuing his life of villainy and embracing his new role as a father. This first movie established the series’ signature blend of funny, mischievous villainy and heartwarming emotion.

‘Bugonia’ (2025)

Okay, so I just got a peek at what Yorgos Lanthimos is cooking up next, and it sounds wild. It’s a sci-fi flick inspired by a South Korean cult film from 2003 called ‘Save the Green Planet!’. Basically, it’s about two guys who become absolutely convinced a powerful pharmaceutical executive is actually an alien sent to scout Earth. They decide the only way to stop a full-blown invasion is to… well, kidnap her. What makes this even more exciting is that Lanthimos is working with Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons again – they were fantastic together in previous films. It’s not out until next year, but the early word is already creating a huge buzz, and honestly, I’m completely hooked by the premise!

Shrek Forever After’ (2010)

Shrek is tired of being famous and misses simply being an ogre, so he makes a deal with the tricky Rumpelstiltskin. This deal sends him to a bizarre, alternate version of his kingdom where ogres are the hunted, and Rumpelstiltskin rules. To fix things, Shrek needs to find Fiona and share a true love’s kiss before time runs out. Through this adventure, he learns to appreciate the life he already had and fully accepts who he is, bringing his story to a satisfying end.
