The Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath’s farewell concert was a massive success, drawing viewers from across the globe. Almost every performing band was exceptional, and at the conclusion of the event, neither Ozzy nor Sabbath fell short of expectations.
The show could potentially disappoint in one aspect. Following the July 5 event, Tom Morello, ex-guitarist of Rage Against the Machine and musical director of the Back to the Beginning finale concert, announced on his Instagram that the show had garnered close to $200 million for charity.
Sharon Osbourne, who is both Ozzy’s wife and his manager, swiftly stated that the sum mentioned by Morello was excessively high and significantly off the mark. This, according to Sharon, was due to the fact that there simply hasn’t been enough time elapsed to accurately calculate the exact dollar amount.
Sharon Osbourne not sure how much Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath farewell raised
Delaying to announce the amount raised for Acorns Children’s Hospice, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, and Cure Parkinson’s just a few days after the event can be perceived as unjust towards these charities. They could have anticipated the contribution and felt encouraged about the potential support they were going to receive.
Sharon Osbourne shared with Pollstar her concerns about the numerous inaccurate reports claiming they’d earned $140 million. She finds these stories unbelievable and wonders where such rumors originate. Determining their actual earnings is a time-consuming process due to managing multiple bands, their expenses, and it usually takes about six weeks to obtain the final figure.
Indeed, it seems that the exact figure has taken its sweet time to surface, but I’ve got a feeling it’s going to be much more than we initially anticipated. Given how things unfolded, a range of approximately $140-$190 million sounds plausible once the official number is revealed.
Osbourne certainly emphasizes an essential aspect. Notably, legendary bands like Metallica didn’t charge a performance fee, but it seems clear that the farewell event covered their costs, which are likely to be quite high.
Relocating personnel and equipment from the United States to the UK, as well as within Europe to the UK, can be quite costly. Fingers crossed, significant funds were collected for valuable charities; however, it may take some time before we get a clear understanding of the exact amount donated.
