A while back, we shared news about a research project offering money for consuming cheese. While I’d happily take some extra money for indulging in cheese, the study aimed to discover if eating cheese leads to nightmares. Interestingly, it appears that there might be some truth to this based on a study published in Frontiers in Psychology. (Thanks to Foodbeast for highlighting this intriguing fact.)
Individuals who are lactose intolerant may experience nightmares if they consume dairy, particularly cheese later in the day. These dreams often don’t persist for long, as they might be interrupted by an upset stomach that could potentially wake one up before a scheduled bathroom visit. Interestingly, out of 1,000 surveyed participants, almost double the number of women reported sleep problems compared to men.
Approximately 40% of those asked agreed that food impacted their sleep, with one out of every four people attributing dairy products, sugary treats, and spicy dishes as the culprits. So it seems we might want to opt for less flavorful meals more often, although I’m not ready to part ways with cheese just yet.
