I was so sad to hear about Robert Redford. As a movie lover, it feels like losing a true icon. He wasn’t just a handsome leading man – he was a fantastic director and really dedicated to supporting independent filmmaking. He was 89, and honestly, Hollywood feels a little less bright without him.

Cindi Berger, head of the publicity firm Rogers & Cowan PMK, told The New York Times that Robert Redford died peacefully in his sleep at his home in Utah early Tuesday morning. The reason for his death is currently unknown.

Robert Redford, born August 18, 1936, in Santa Monica, California, leaves behind an extraordinary legacy in Hollywood. He was a naturally charismatic and talented actor with striking looks – blonde hair and a captivating screen presence – making him a perfect leading man. His impressive filmography, spanning genres like action, romance, drama, and political thrillers, is the stuff of many actors’ dreams. Some of his most memorable roles include films like *Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid*, *All The President’s Men*, *Three Days of the Condor*, *The Natural*, *The Way We Were*, *A Bridge Too Far*, *Out of Africa*, *The Great Gatsby*, and *Indecent Proposal*.

I remember when Robert Redford got a Best Actor nomination back in 1974 for *The Sting* – a fantastic film! But a lot of newer moviegoers probably know him best as Alexander Pierce from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He first appeared as that character in *Captain America: The Winter Soldier*, and it was great to see him reprise the role in *Avengers: Endgame*.

Robert Redford started directing films with the 1980 drama *Ordinary People*, which won the Academy Award for Best Picture and earned him the Oscar for Best Director. He received another Best Director nomination in 1995 for *Quiz Show*.

I’ve always admired Robert Redford, not just as a massive movie star, but also for his dedication to smaller, independent films. It was amazing when he started the Sundance Film Institute back in 1981. Then, just a few years later, he really took a chance by revitalizing a film event in Utah, turning it into the incredible Sundance Film Festival we know today.

Robert Redford was well-known for his dedication to environmental causes and political activism. He is remembered by his wife, Szaggars Redford, and his two children, Shauna Schlosser Redford and Amy Redford, from his marriage to Lola Van Wagenen.
