Revisiting the time Deadpool felt the need to stick up for Nickelback

As a die-hard Deadpool fan and someone who has been eagerly anticipating the release of “Deadpool & Wolverine,” I can’t contain my excitement! It’s been six long years since we last saw our beloved anti-hero on the big screen, and I’m more than ready for another round of his unique brand of humor and action.

Fear not, Deadpool enthusiasts! The upcoming movie with your favorite character is slated for release on July 26. Its title, as you may have guessed, is “Deadpool & Wolverine” – a surprise for those who weren’t aware. It’s been quite a wait since the last Deadpool film hit theaters six long years ago. So mark your calendars and get ready for some action!

During the excitement leading up to the release of Deadpool 2, some lighthearted extras emerged, unrelated to the movie itself. One of these amusing clips starred Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and Fred Savage, recognized for his role in “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.”

As a huge fan of both “The Wonder Years” and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” I have to admit that while Kevin Nealon is well-known for his role in the former, his contributions to the latter are often overlooked. Although he didn’t appear frequently on the show, he did make an appearance or two, sharing screen time with Danny DeVito and Rob McElhenney, Reynolds’ longtime friend. It’s intriguing to ponder whether Nealon played a role in fostering their friendship behind the scenes. But I digress from my original point – Nealon may not be as closely associated with “It’s Always Sunny,” but his appearances were undoubtedly memorable and added depth to the show.

The time Deadpool stuck up for Nickelback

In a 2018 video featuring Savage and Deadpool, Savage teasingly notes that while Deadpool is connected to Marvel, he is not exactly part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Using an analogy, Savage jokes that although both the Beatles and Nickelback create music, there’s a significant difference in their caliber. Deadpool responds poorly to this comparison.

As a dedicated gamer, I can’t help but notice the unique connection between Nickelback being Canadian and Ryan Reynolds hailing from the same land. This element adds authenticity and humor to Reynolds’ defense of the band in the game. In response to Savage’s criticism that Nickelback is “overproduced, formulaic, and an ear-pollutant,” my character as Reynolds quips back with statistics on their impressive album sales and award nominations, including Junos!

At the close of the video, Savage and Deadpool perform a lighthearted duet to Nickelback’s hit single, “How You Remind Me.” Despite the entertainment value, this rendition doesn’t improve the song’s original merit.

The soundtrack for Deadpool & Wolverine does not include any Nickelback tunes. But you’ll find Avril Lavigne mentioned on the list. Fret not, fellow Canadians, your music culture will be represented.
