1989 RUF CTR “Yellowbird,” a flawless piece from Gooding & Company’s Amelia Island Auctions, was sold for an astonishing $6,055,000 USD. This sale sets a new record for this iconic German performance vehicle, emphasizing its increasing value as a sought-after collector’s item.

Among the mere 29 produced, this vehicle – identified as chassis number W09BT0343KPR06026 – was meticulously crafted in the unique Blutengelb (Blossom Yellow) hue, making it one of a scant nine with this specific color. What sets this Porsche apart even further is that it was customized with the uncommon Leichtbau (lightweight) design, boasting aluminum bodywork, a Matter aluminum roll cage, and an optional six-speed RUF transmission. Remarkably preserved, it has traveled less than 1,056 miles since its initial ride.

In 1987, the RUF CTR car garnered global acclaim as it was declared the fastest production vehicle worldwide. During a competition held by Road & Track, it reached an astonishing speed of 211 mph. Known as “Yellowbird” due to its striking yellow color and high-pitched twin-turbo flat-six engine, this model left a lasting impression in automotive history. This was further cemented through the RUF-produced film “Faszination auf dem Nürburgring” and numerous appearances in video games.
