Rebecca Ferguson Opens up About Becoming a Mom at 23 With a Partner 22 Years Older

Rebecca Ferguson recently discussed the difficulties of juggling a successful acting career with raising a young child. In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, the star of Silo talked about becoming a mother to her son, Isac, when she was only 23 years old.

Although young, Ferguson explained that she felt prepared because she’d been working professionally since age 15. Being in the industry as a teenager meant she was already used to handling responsibility, even before becoming a parent.

This early work experience gave her a level of maturity that helped her adjust to motherhood. Ferguson shares her son with her former partner, Ludwig Hallberg, and despite their significant age difference, she felt she had already been living as an adult for many years.

The actress is a mother to seven-year-old Saga, and is married to Rory St. Clair Gainer. She recently shared some surprising stories about filming while pregnant with her second child, particularly during the action-packed Mission: Impossible movies. She described a difficult cycle of performing intense fight scenes, then quickly running off to be sick, before immediately returning to set to complete the scene.

Even though her job takes her all over the world – from hot deserts to the icy Arctic – Ferguson is committed to family time. She makes sure she’s never away from her children for more than three weeks, and considers being a present parent her top priority. This helps her balance a demanding career, including starring in major science fiction and action films, with being there for her kids.

She recounted a funny story about her daughter’s show and tell. After working on the movie Hercules with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, she brought home a prop skull as a gift. She was amused to find out her six-year-old had actually taken the impressive skull to school, but the school sent it back home, asking for something more typical for show and tell.

By February, Rebecca Ferguson had become a major draw in science fiction movies. Her newest film, Mercy, released on January 23rd, stars her as a detached and logical AI judge who determines the fate of a detective portrayed by Chris Pratt. Though critics have had varying opinions, audiences have responded positively to her strong performance.

Rebecca Ferguson has a busy schedule planned for 2026, with projects for both television and film. She’s getting ready for the third season of Silo on Apple TV+, and they’ve already begun filming the final, fourth season. On the big screen, she’ll be in the upcoming Peaky Blinders movie, The Immortal Man, playing a character named Kaulo, a mysterious medium, alongside Cillian Murphy. She’s also been cast in a film adaptation of the fantasy novel The Magic Faraway Tree.
