Rebecca Black, who was once a 13-year-old internet sensation from the song “Friday,” has grown up and is now a 27-year-old artist. She wants to make it clear that she’s moved on from her past. Her latest work, Salvation, is her second full-length project which she self-released. This new release signifies Rebecca’s foray into more experimental music genres, particularly hyperpop, a genre that’s becoming increasingly mainstream.
The objective of ‘Salvation’ is to distance itself from the internet-famous image associated with Black, and it does so effectively through its compact 21-minute runtime. This album boasts captivating dance tracks, accompanied by lyrical reminiscences that are bound to evoke nostalgia.
The album was previewed in October with the debut single, “TRUST!”, and it’s been one of her most popular tracks since then on streaming platforms. The second single, titled “Sugar Water Cyanide,” dropped in December, showcasing a stronger leaning towards hyperpop, though this genre is known for its constant evolution.
Black isn’t new to the realm of experimental electronic music. Back in 2023, they self-released their debut full-length album titled ‘Let Her Burn.’ Following its release, they embarked on a tour to promote it. Last summer, they also delivered an electrifying performance at Boiler Room, which they described on Instagram as “the most thunderous item I’ll ever cross off my bucket list.
You can stream “Salvation” on Apple Music and Spotify now.
