As a fan of truly innovative television, I was a bit heartbroken to hear Rami Malek essentially shut down any hopes of a Mr. Robot revival. The show, created by the brilliant Sam Esmail, was a real standout when it aired on USA Network from 2015 to 2019. It followed Elliot Alderson, Malek’s incredibly compelling character, a cybersecurity expert who gets pulled into the world of a mysterious hacking collective called fsociety. It was a fantastic ride, and it seems we’ve seen the last of Elliot’s story.
The series delved into the complex connection between Elliot and the enigmatic Mr. Robot, portrayed by Christian Slater, and the fallout from their large-scale hack of the powerful company, E Corp.
The show finished with its fourth season in December 2019, and there haven’t been any developments regarding continuing the story. Although Mr. Robot is still popular and has a dedicated fanbase, the series has a clear ending. The creator, Esmail, has stated that Elliot Alderson’s story is finished.
Rami Malek recently discussed a potential reunion with director Sam Esmail while promoting his new film, Nuremberg, at a Deadline Contenders event. He confirmed they’ve talked about future projects, but made it clear that a Mr. Robot revival wasn’t part of the conversation. “Sam and I just talked about working together again, but that’s it,” Malek stated. When asked specifically about returning to Mr. Robot, he definitively replied, “No.”
As a huge fan, I’m so relieved to hear that Mr. Robot is truly finished. There won’t be any reboots, revivals, or attempts to continue Elliot’s story – and honestly, that’s exactly what I wanted. While I’m excited to see what Rami Malek and Sam Esmail do next, they can create something new knowing Elliot Alderson’s journey will always stay as we remember it. It’s a perfect ending, and I’m happy they’re respecting that.
