Quentin Tarantino is a filmmaker with a deep love and understanding of movies, from classic Hollywood to obscure B-films. This wide-ranging knowledge shines through in his work, which blends different genres like crime thrillers, martial arts, and westerns.

While heavily influenced by the directors he admires, Tarantino has a distinct and recognizable style of his own. In the early 2010s, he demonstrated his passion for westerns with back-to-back films, Django Unchained and The Hateful Eight.

He even paid homage to a 1966 Sergio Corbucci film by naming Django Unchained after it and featuring the original star, Franco Nero, in a brief appearance. Tarantino has openly shared his favorite westerns, naming Rio Bravo, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, and One-Eyed Jacks as his top three.

Quentin Tarantino admires directors like Sergio Leone, but there’s one classic filmmaker he strongly dislikes. Many would guess he’d appreciate John Ford, director of iconic films like The Searchers and Stagecoach, but that’s far from the truth.

In an interview with Henry Louis Gates, Tarantino explained that he considers Ford’s work to be overhyped, even stating, “To say the least, I hate him.” His issue with Ford stems from the director’s depiction of Native Americans and the overall message of his films.

Tarantino specifically criticized how Ford’s movies portrayed Native Americans as nameless and disposable, essentially treating them like zombies. He believes these older films promoted a limited and biased view of who was considered important. He also dismissed Ford’s celebrated visual style, claiming he’s always thought it was overrated.

The director recently surprised fans by canceling his tenth film, The Movie Critic, and instead focusing on a large-scale new project called The Adventures of Cliff Booth. Written by Tarantino and directed by David Fincher, this Netflix film is a sequel to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, with Brad Pitt reprising his role as Cliff Booth. Filming finished in January, and the movie is scheduled to be released later this year.

Quentin Tarantino isn’t just known for movies – he’s also stepping into the world of theater! He and his family have recently relocated to London, where he’s starting rehearsals for a stage play he wrote himself. He intends to be heavily involved in the production throughout the year.
