As a die-hard fan of all things cinematic, I can’t help but get thrilled about the upcoming anime series set in the world of Cyberpunk 2077. Despite bearing the name “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2”, this new show will actually be a separate addition to the universe. The announcement has already ignited excitement, with Netflix unveiling a teaser trailer for the series. And let me tell you, it’s shaping up to be the most heart-wrenching and action-packed installment in the franchise yet. I can hardly wait!
The official announcement for ‘Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2’ reveals, ‘David has met his end, but Night City continues. Production on ‘Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2’ is underway! This new 10-episode tale set in the universe of ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ delivers a gritty account of redemption and vengeance. In a city fueled by violence, one query lingers: when all eyes are dazzled by spectacle, what lengths will you have to go to make your narrative significant?
In the realm of Cyberpunk 2077, both inside and out, it’s an intriguing query. Showrunner and writer Bartosz Sztybor shed light on the story of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2’s anime sequel. He divulged, “I aimed to make everyone miserable… when people are miserable, I feel a bit content,” adding that the new Cyberpunk series would be “definitely more miserable, but it will also be darker, bloodier, and rawer.” Furthermore, he stated, “David’s story may have ended, but there’s still much to explore in Night City. And having TRIGGER, the legendary animation studio, join us on this journey makes CD PROJEKT RED eager to present a gritty, genuine tale of redemption and revenge – something different from what we’ve previously created.
Buckle up everyone, it seems like Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 promises to be a thrilling journey for all! However, don’t anticipate any resurrected characters, as the main character David from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is deceased. Instead, envision an entirely new narrative, filled with novel characters and a gritty, authentic portrayal of the most perilous city in the dystopian future. As previously stated, the titles may be misleading, but the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 anime series function more like an anthology than a sequel.
It’s my hope that fans will find the narrative of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 engaging, as CD PROJEKT RED teams up with animation studio TRIGGER to develop it. As previously stated, director Kai Ikarashi (previously of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and SSSS.Gridman) will bring a dynamic cinematic vision to the series. This vision is further supported by lead character designer Kanno Ichigo (Promare, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners). Other returning collaborators include Masahiko Otsuka (Gurren Lagann, Promare) and Hugo Award winner Bartosz Sztybor, serving as Showrunner, Story Writer, and Producer.
Currently, we don’t have a set release date for “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2”. Rest assured, we’ll keep you updated as soon as one is available. For now, you can enjoy the original anime series on Netflix.
