PLNT Nylon is PANGAIA’s Response to Activewear’s Plastic Problem

Showcasing a modest assortment of fundamental black pieces, PANGAIA has revealed one of its most noteworthy advancements in sustainability. The mission-oriented clothing brand has successfully created a 100% biobased nylon, offering an eco-friendly substitute to the commonly used material.

This fabric derived from plants is manufactured by converting monomers sourced from castor oil into high-performance polyamide (PA), instead of relying on petroleum products like those used in conventional plastic textiles such as nylon. This shift lessens our reliance on fossil fuels in the fashion industry, and it’s worth noting that growing castor seeds demands minimal water usage. The collection showcases the material-centric aspect of this release, possibly marking the beginning of an ongoing development process.

Key pieces from the range include the PLNT Nylon Jacket, a lightweight and structured blouson with a subtle screen-printed text block, and the PLNT Nylon Track Pant, a relaxed fit trouser featuring biobased nylon drawcords and four functional pockets. Attention has been paid to even the smallest details, such as the zippers which are crafted from recycled PET tape.

As the industry grapples with its excessive use of environmentally damaging materials derived from petrochemicals, PANGAIA’s groundbreaking collection challenges major players in activewear who remain heavily dependent on fabrics made from plastics. Yet, PANGAIA assures that this does not equate to sacrificing quality. Instead, they describe their product as an eco-friendly, responsible choice that maintains strength, durability, and versatility without compromise.

The PANGAIA PLNT NYLON collection is out now at the brand’s official web store.
