Picasso Meets Asia: A Cross-Cultural Dialogue at M+

The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: Picasso for Asia — A Dialogue

Experience a new take on Pablo Picasso’s legacy through an imaginative, cross-cultural exhibition called “The Conversation.” Featuring over 60 masterpieces from Musée National Picasso-Paris (MnPP), this event will also showcase around 130 works by 30 Asian and Asian-influenced artists from the M+ Collections. This collection spans from the early 20th century to today, fostering a dialogue that highlights shared themes and contrasts between generations and regions.

The exhibition is jointly organized by M+ and MnPP and forms part of the French May Arts Festival 2025. It receives support from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust. This will be the first significant Picasso exhibition in Hong Kong for more than a decade, showcasing an exceptional partnership between the acclaimed European artist and contemporary Asian artists. By blending their artistic heritages, it encourages a richer appreciation of cultural and historical impacts on art.

Highlighted works from MnPP feature renowned pieces like “The Acrobat (1930)”, “Seafighters (1931)”, “Grand Still Life with Table on Pedestal (1931)”, “Portrait of Dora Maar (1937)” and “Massacre in Korea (1951)”. Accompanying these are pieces from the M+ Collections by esteemed artists such as Isamu Noguchi, Luis Chan, Nalini Malani and Haegue Yang. The exhibition also presents fresh works by Simon Fujiwara and Sin Wai Kin, adding depth to this artistic conversation.

The exhibition, titled “The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: Picasso for Asia — A Conversation“, will run from today until July 13, 2025. It offers a unique space for significant cultural interactions and honors the persistent impact of Picasso’s artistic philosophy. You can purchase tickets for this event through M+’s official website.
