The first trailer for the sci-fi movie Project Hail Mary is now available, offering a sneak peek at the film directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.
Starring Ryan Gosling, Sandra Hüller, and Milana Vayntrub, the movie is adapted from Andy Weir’s 2021 novel of the same name. Gosling also helped produce the film. This is the first movie completed by directors Lord and Miller since 2014’s 22 Jump Street.
The film follows astronaut Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling) as he awakens on a spaceship with complete amnesia. He quickly discovers he’s the sole survivor of a critical mission to the Tau Ceti star system, sent to save Earth from an impending catastrophe. To succeed, Grace must rely on his scientific expertise and resilience, though he may not be as alone as he thinks.

I was really impressed with the cast of this show! Sandra Hüller is phenomenal as Eva Stratt, the woman running the whole Hail Mary operation and basically in charge of Grace. And Milana Vayntrub is great as Olesya Ilyukhina, one of the astronauts who actually gets to go on the mission. There’s a lot of other fantastic actors too, like Ken Leung, Lionel Boyce, Liz Kingsman, Orion Lee, and James Ortiz – they all play really important parts in the story.
Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer bought the rights to Andy Weir’s novel in 2020 for $3 million. Soon after, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller signed on to direct and produce the film, with Drew Goddard – who successfully adapted Weir’s The Martian before – writing the script. Filming began on June 3, 2024, in the United Kingdom and finished on October 26, 2024.
Cinematographer Greig Fraser was hired to capture the film’s visual style.
The movie adaptation of Project Hail Mary will arrive in US theaters on March 20, 2026, thanks to Amazon MGM Studios. Sony Pictures will distribute the film internationally, and it will also be available to watch in IMAX.
The new trailer focuses on Ryan Gosling’s character and offers a preview of the film’s exciting, adventurous, and science-focused plot.
