Peter Do Launches New Label: PD-168

Summary

  • Following his departure from Helmut Lang, Peter Do has launched a new label, PD-168, with a lower-priced, all-black line designed as a versatile uniform.
  • The collection, made from three machine-washable fabrics, features consistent materials and centers on a singular white tattoo line detail.

Almost a year after his departure from Helmut Lang, NYC-based designer Peter Do is switching gears with a new label called PD-168. While the PD is an obvious reference to the designer’s initials, 168 represents the total hours of the 7-day week — meaning Do wants you to wear these garments all day, every day. In fact, the designer himself said it best

As a gamer, I’m psyched about the fresh new gaming attire that’s versatile and dynamic enough for daily wear. You might notice the affordable price tags on these pieces because they’re designed for everyday use, not just for the gaming arena. The collection features sleek all-black garments, subtly embellished with a white stripe inspired by one of Do’s tattoos. Vogue reported that the designer limited himself to three fabrics throughout the line – soft cotton terry, supple jersey, and luxurious Japanese “liquid satin.” Best part? All these garments are machine-washable!

United by their uniform use of similar materials and monochrome color schemes, this collection draws inspiration from fundamental clothing essentials, such as plain t-shirts and sports trousers. Among other innovative designs, you’ll find an oversized padded blazer, a tailored jacket, and coat that showcase the latest fashion trends through features like extended trim, pleats, and refined details. Notably, the graphic piece – a humorous “THOT LEADER” tank – fits seamlessly into the current trend of statement graphics.

In a post on Instagram, Do shared that PD-168 is a garment concept designed to inspire creativity across all domains. The promotional video, shot at the Brooklyn Museum and masterminded by Samuel Schler, encapsulates the spirit of the collection. The outfits are intended for mobility, daily wear, physical activities, and dancing in.

The first lookbook, shot in Saigon, Vietnam by Trisha Do, showcases 28 individuals from various professions such as chefs, dancers, designers, researchers, artists, music producers, singers, art advisors, and more. These talented people wear PD-168 while navigating the bustling streets of Vietnam’s metropolis. This serves to emphasize the system’s unique capacity to harmoniously blend with a multitude of practices, yet retain its authenticity,” he explained.

The inaugural PD-168 collection is available now for pre-order at the label’s official webstore.
