As a huge Nolan fan, I was thrilled to see the first photos from his new movie, The Odyssey, pop up in Empire Magazine! It’s giving us a really exciting first glimpse into what looks like a seriously ambitious take on the classic myth.
The recently released photos showcase important characters and give us a sense of how large and ambitious this movie will be, with a planned release in 2026.
A photo from the upcoming film features Anne Hathaway as Penelope, Odysseus’s wife, with Mia Goth portraying Melantho behind her. This is Hathaway’s third collaboration with director Christopher Nolan, after their work on The Dark Knight Rises and Interstellar. Hathaway has a busy year planned, with several other big movies set to come out.

The film also stars Tom Holland as Telemachus, the son of Odysseus. He’s part of a huge cast that includes Charlize Theron, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Benny Safdie, Samantha Morton, and Jon Bernthal. Matt Damon plays Odysseus, and the movie centers on his epic journey home following the Trojan War.

There’s been a lot of talk about when fans will finally see a sneak peek of the new movie. Some sources say a special preview, possibly a short introductory scene, could be shown before screenings of Avatar: Fire and Ash.
I’m not surprised to see some early glimpses of this movie! Knowing Nolan, he’s done this before with his other films, giving fans a little something to get excited about ahead of time.
The movie The Odyssey is set to be released on July 17, 2026. It cost approximately $250 million to make and was filmed using cutting-edge IMAX camera technology with Hoyte van Hoytema, who frequently works with director Christopher Nolan. Demand has been incredible, with early tickets for the 70mm IMAX showings selling out quickly at many theaters.
