Pedro Pascal Clears Up Avengers Leadership Confusion

In a recent turn of events, it’s crucial to clarify that Pedro Pascal won’t be taking charge as the leader of the Avengers in “Avengers: Doomsday”, contrary to any potential misunderstandings stemming from comments made by “Fantastic Four” director Matt Shakman. Simply put, I, as a movie enthusiast, am here to set the record straight!

Pascal Says Director Was Misquoted

After Matt Shakman mentioned to Variety that Reed Richards is the one commanding the Avengers, fans assumed it meant Pedro Pascal would be leading Earth’s strongest team in “Doomsday”. However, during an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Pascal clarified this isn’t accurate.

As a movie enthusiast, I was discussing a version of Reed Richards, who in the Marvel comics, finds himself among the Avengers after the Fantastic Four’s integration, and is assigned to spearhead a mission. However, it’s crucial to note that our project differs significantly from this comic book scenario. Therefore, I believe that Matt’s comments about Reed in the context of the comics may have been misunderstood or misconstrued.

What to Expect in Fantastic Four and Doomsday

The Fantastic Four: Initial Journey” introduces Pascal as Reed Richards, alongside Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm), Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm). This group resides in a universe distinct from the Avengers. When Silver Surfer, portrayed by Julia Garner, arrives to alert them of Galactus’ impending threat, the team unites to safeguard Earth. The movie debuts on Thursday with advanced screenings, and officially premieres on Friday.

In the primary Marvel Cinematic Universe storyline, all four actors will reappear in the movie titled “Avengers: Doomsday“. This upcoming production features Robert Downey Jr. portraying Victor Von Doom, taking over from Kang as the principal antagonist of the saga.

MCU shifts to Doom

Kevin Feige recently explained the shift away from Kang to Doctor Doom:

It became clear to us that Kang wasn’t the right fit, as he wasn’t like Thanos, and we knew there was only one character who could fill those shoes due to his long-standing role in the comics. We had discussions about Doctor Doom before we officially shifted our focus from Kang. In fact, I had already begun discussing this bold concept with Robert prior to the release of Ant-Man 3.

Fantastic Four hits theaters this weekend. Avengers: Doomsday arrives December 18, 2026.
