Despite being canceled by Peacock after two seasons, the creators of Poker Face are exploring options to keep the show going.
According to sources at Deadline, director Rian Johnson and producer Natasha Lyonne are working to revive the show with a fresh take.
The show will feature a rotating lead role, starting with Peter Dinklage taking over from Lyonne as Charlie Cale. The plan is to switch the main actor every two seasons.
Lyonne will still be an executive producer, and Johnson will continue writing and directing. It’s currently unknown who will oversee the show creatively, but Nora and Lilla Zuckerman led the first season, while Tony Tost was in charge for the second.
Johnson and Lyonne announced they’ve been planning their next project since finishing season two of ‘Poker Face.’ They expressed their affection for the show and hinted at the possibility of continuing Charlie Cale’s story in the future, suggesting fans might see her on another adventure.
Originally debuting in 2021, Poker Face is a mystery series reminiscent of shows like Columbo. It centers around Charlie Cale, a detective who travels the country and has a knack for detecting when people are lying. The show included appearances from well-known guest stars, such as John Mulaney playing a dishonest FBI agent and Cynthia Erivo in multiple roles.
Over its two seasons, the series received six Emmy nominations and Judith Light won an Emmy for her guest appearance. MRC and T-Street produced the show.
