Paramount is developing a new Star Trek film, and Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley will be directing.
According to Deadline, the duo will be fully involved in the new film – writing, producing, and directing it through their GoldDay production company. This movie will be a standalone story, completely separate from any previous films or existing television series in the franchise.
I’m hearing from folks involved that this new movie is a completely fresh start. It’s not going to be tied to the stories we saw with Chris Pine, and it’s not building on any of the previous tries to bring the franchise back. They really want this one to stand on its own two feet.
The next film will likely explore a completely new story arc for the universe, potentially with new characters. This aligns with statements from Skydance’s David Ellison, who indicated the movie will deviate from the plot of previous films, according to Deadline.
During an earnings call, Ellison stated the company aims to refresh the brand with a completely original film, featuring a new cast and storyline, rather than continuing an existing series.
I’m really excited about what Paramount is hinting at with the next Star Trek film. From what I’m hearing, they’re not just rehashing old storylines. They’re looking to do something genuinely new, a story that can stand on its own while still feeling like Star Trek. It sounds like the filmmakers are getting a lot of freedom to be creative, which is fantastic news for fans like me who are craving something original.
